Club Code of Conduct

Perthshire Hockey Club is run by a committee of volunteers.  The following code outlines what you as members can expect from your Club Committee.
  1. Perthshire Hockey Club will ensure that rules, equipment, length of games and training schedules are modified to suit the age, ability and maturity of players.
  2. Perthshire Hockey Club will ensure quality supervision and instruction for all members.
  3. Perthshire Hockey Club will remember that members participate for their enjoyment and benefit. Perthshire Hockey Club will not over emphasise awards.
  4. Perthshire Hockey Club will provide opportunities for ALL members to be involved in planning, leadership, evaluation and decision-making related to their activity.
  5. Perthshire Hockey Club will create pathways for ALL members not just as a player but as a coach, umpire, administrator etc.
  6. Perthshire Hockey Club will help coaches and officials highlight appropriate behaviour and skill development and help to improve the standards of coaching and officiating.
  7. Perthshire Hockey Club will ensure that everyone involved in sport emphasises fair play, and not winning at all costs.
  8. Perthshire Hockey Club will distribute a code of conduct to players, coaches, officials and parents and encourage them to follow it.
  9. Perthshire Hockey Club will operate a zero-tolerance approach to bad language or behaviour from any member to any other player, coach, official or spectator at Perthshire Hockey Club.
  10. Perthshire Hockey Club will respect the rights, dignity and worth of all people involved in the game, regardless of their gender, ability or cultural background.
  11. Perthshire Hockey Club will promote and adhere to anti-doping policies.
 

Player Code of Conduct

All Club Players:

  1. Will always play by the rules of the game.
  2. Will work equally hard for themselves and/ or their team.
  3. Will respect the rights, dignity and worth of all people involved in the game, regardless of their gender, ability or cultural background.
  4. Will display control, respect and professionalism to all involved with the sport including opponents, umpires, coaches, officials, administrators, the media, parents and spectators. Foul and aggressive language on or around the pitch will not be tolerated.
  5. Will understand that Perthshire Hockey Club operates a zero-tolerance approach to foul and aggressive language aimed at officials.
  6. Will understand that deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent are not acceptable or permitted behaviors’ in any sport.
  7. Will display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat.
  8. Will thank the opposition and officials at the end of a game.
  9. Will not arrive at the venue intoxicated or drink alcohol at junior matches.
  10. Will comply to anti-doping policies.

  12. Will attend training & matches on time and with the correct kit.
  13. Will pay annual fees on time.
  14. Will use Spond app as the main form of communication within the club.
  15. Will reply quickly to availability/other requests.
  16. Will let coaches/ captains/managers know if plans change and they cannot attend events.
  17. Will raise issues re: selection, substitution, training or tactics with the coach or captain in the first instance.
  18. Will volunteer to support coaches/ captains/ committee where appropriate eg: washing strips, umpiring etc.

Coach/Officials Code of Conduct

All Club Coach and Officials:

  1. Will obtain/ retain appropriate qualifications and keep up to date with the latest coaching practices and the principles of growth and development of players.
  2. Will ensure that the time players spend with them is a positive experience. All players are deserving of equal attention and opportunities.
  3. Will operate within the rules and spirit of the game and teach their players to do the same.
  4. Will ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of all players.
  5. Will display control, respect and professionalism to all involved with the sport including opponents, umpires, coaches, officials, administrators, the media, parents and spectators. They will encourage players to do the same.
  6. Will respect the rights, dignity and worth of all people involved in the game, regardless of their gender, ability or cultural background.
  7. Will understand that Perthshire Hockey Club operates a zero-tolerance approach to foul and aggressive language aimed at officials.
  8. Will show concern and caution towards sick and injured players and follow advice of a physician or, in the absence of such, follow established guidance when determining whether an injured player is ready to commence training or competition.
  9. Will remember that players participate for the enjoyment and winning is only part of the fun.
  10. Will never ridicule or yell at players for making a mistake or not winning.
  11. Will be reasonable in their demands on player’s time, energy and enthusiasm.
  12. Will avoid overplaying the talented players and understand that all players need and deserve equal time.
  13. Will not arrive at the venue intoxicated or drink alcohol at junior matches.
  14. Will not allow the unlawful supply of alcohol at training, games or club functions.
  15. Will promote adherence to anti-doping policies.

Umpire Code of Conduct

All Club Umpires:

  1. Will place the safety and welfare of players above all else.
  2. Will show concern and caution towards sick or injured players
  3. Will treat each player equally regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
  4. Will be impartial, consistent, objective and courteous when making decisions.
  5. Will accept responsibility for their actions and decisions.
  6. Will condemn unsporting behaviour and promote respect for the individuality of players.
  7. Will operate a zero-tolerance approach to foul and aggressive language aimed at officials.
  8. Will avoid any situations which may lead to or be construed as a conflict of interest.
  9. Will be a role model in behaviour and personal appearance and ensure my comments are positive and supportive.
  10. Will be a good sport and understand that actions speak louder than words.
  11. Will always respect, remain loyal to and support other officials.
  12. Will keep up to date with the latest ‘Laws of the Game’, trends and principles of their application.
  13. Will refrain from any form of personal abuse towards players or other officials.
  14. Will not arrive at a venue intoxicated.
  15. Will respect the rights, dignity and worth of all people involved in the game, regardless of their gender, ability or cultural background.U

Parent / Carer Code of Conduct

As a parent/carer you are expected to:

  1. Promote your players participation in playing sport for fun.
  2. Ensure that your player understands Perthshire Hockey Club’s Player Code of Conduct https://www.perthshirehockey.org/policies/
  3. Encourage your player to play within the rules and respect officials and coaches’ decisions – no matter what.
  4. Support players to respect the efforts of their opponents, be impartial, consistent, objective and courteous when making decisions.
  5. Submit the PHC Player Registration Form every year including details re: medical conditions, additional support needs and relevant consents. Any changes should be reported to the coach/ manager prior to the activity.
  6. Use Spond app as the Perthshire Hockey Club’s method of communication and respond timeously to availability and other requests.
  7. Ensure that proper sportswear and protective equipment are worn. Any player not in possession of protective equipment will not be permitted to participate. For U18 players protective equipment is mouthguard and shin pads.  A glove is compulsory for indoor hockey and highly recommended for outdoor hockey.
  8. Ensure your player has clothing and kit appropriate to the weather conditions on the day.
  9. Recognise that the club’s responsibility for care of your player is during structured training sessions and game times. You are responsible for your player out with these times.
  10. Deliver and collect your player punctually at the pitch before and after training sessions/ events.
  11. Inform the event organiser prior to the activity starting if your player is to be collected early or by someone else.
  12. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all people involved in the game, regardless of their gender, ability or cultural background.
  13. Behave responsibly; do not use bad language, or harass players, coaches or other spectators.
  14. understand that Perthshire Hockey Club operates a zero-tolerance approach to foul and aggressive language aimed at officials.
  15. Lead by example by applauding good play/performances by both your player’s team and their opponents.
  16. Show appreciation and support PHC coaches and volunteers.
  17. Accept coaches/ captains/managers umpires decisions and do not enter the field of play.
  18. Do not arrive at a venue intoxicated or drink alcohol at junior matches.

As a parent/carer you have the right to:

  1. Be assured that your player is safeguarded during their participation in sport.
  2. Be informed of problems or concerns relating to your player.
  3. Be informed if your player is injured.
  4. Have your consent sought for issues such as photography, shared changing etc.
  5. Contribute to decisions within the club.
  6. Have any concerns about any aspect of your player’s welfare or involvement in the club listened and responded to.

Child Protection Policy

The Child Protection Officers (CPO) for the club is James Ford. The club holds its own child protection policy (see below) in line with the guidelines suggested by the sport’s governing body, Scottish Hockey. Junior coaches and certain other club members are expected to undertake a PVG check.

PVG process

A more detailed process is given below that was produced by Scottish Hockey, however in short the process is as follows:

  1. Applicants, such as coaches complete and sign a self-declaration form (copy can be downloaded see below) and either hand it in person or scan & e-mail it to James Ford the Child protection Officers for the Club.
  2. The Club’s Child Protection Officer checks three forms of identification, this must either be in person or through video call/photograph. (NB No scanned copies can be accepted.) The Child protection Officer then asks Scottish Hockey to organise Disclosure Scotland to send an online PVG form to applicant.
  3. Applicants will receive an email from Disclosure Scotland with link to online PVG form, this must be accessed and completed within 7 days.
  4. Certificate issued to applicant and organisation.
  5. Once processed (this may take several weeks) Disclosure Scotland will separately issue applicant a certificate informing them either that have joined the PVG scheme or that the existing membership has been updated to include Perthshire Hockey Club. The club should similarly be notified.
