Frequently Asked Questions
The club are always interested to hear form organisations or people who wish to help the club. The club have a number of sponsorship opportunities open to people and organisations.
The 100 club which helps raise some much needed club funds, but there are other roles within the club where we can do with some additional volunteers and hands. So please get in touch to see how we can best work together.
We’d suggest that you first come along to training and give us a try. All senior training is free of charge, and you are under no obligation to join or regularly attend training if it is not for you.
Whilst you are welcome just to turn up, it can be useful let us know in advance just in case of any last minute changes you can also check out our Facebook page for last minute news.
To play matches for the club, you will need to join the club. You can either do so via casual membership, which allows you to play up to three matches at £10 each game or join as a full member in which case we would ask you to pay a full membership fee.
The sports governing body the Scottish Hockey Union (SHU) requires us to register and pay a registration fee for all players. To do this we need the following details from you: (Name, Address, Tel No., Date of birth, e-mail address). If you have moved from another Scottish Hockey club, we will also need to organise a transfer of your registration details from your former club to Perthshire Hockey through the SHU.
Outdoor matches usually start in early September; however pre-season training usually starts in mid August. Outdoor games run through to mid-November to early December and restart in early February till April/May. The indoor season starts in October/November and runs through till late January early February.
Dates & venues of training are available on the training page. Senior matches are usually on Saturday or Sunday. Except the Men’s 1st XI and cup games, the furthest away matches are no more than an 80-minute drive.
With three senior men’s teams and three ladies teams , the club can cater for a wide spectrum of abilities. The Men’s 1st XI play in National League Div 2 and the Ladies 1st XI play in the national championship League , whilst the remaining teams play in either Division 1 or 2 of the Midlands District Leagues.
U18 & U16 boys and girls teams play regularly in national indoor and outdoor competitions.
U14/U12 and U10 have regular training sessions on Monday evenings and play in Midland development tournaments where players get the chance to put in practice what they have learned at training.
You’ll need a stick. If you haven’t got a stick, ideally with advanced notice one of the club’s members is usually happy to loan out one of their spare sticks for the duration of training. We also have a supply of club sticks at Strathallan School. Shin pads are mandatory and Astroturf hockey shoes are very strongly recommended. We also require U18s to wear a gum shield.
If you progress onto playing matches yellow tops and blue shorts/skorts are provided in some teams. The club play in yellow shirts, blue shorts/skorts and yellow socks. For Midlands Hockey matches men wear red socks for away games.
Sturdy astro trainers for outdoor are recommended, and non-marking sole indoor trainers for the indoor season.
The junior part of our youth section caters for ages 5 to 14 year old, once 14 years old most players progress either onto senior hockey or onto the U16/U18 part of the youth section. There is no upper age limit for players and we have a number of players still playing hockey into their sixties
Generally, you must be over 14 years old. You can however play in Midland District matches when under 14 providing in advance your parents/guardian signs a consent form, (speak to your captain if you need a form). If signing the form as a parent/guardian, please give consideration to the fact that if you sign this form your child will be playing against adults in competitive games.
Usually, you are expected to organise your own transport to & from training and home matches. If however you are struggling please talk to your captain, as lifts can usually be arranged with players living near you. For away matches, we usually meet at Broxden Park and Ride in Perth and can give you a lift in one of the player’s cars from there.
